Anime StL 09 – Coming Soon!

The 2009 Anime St. Louis convention is going to be a year to remember. After a few bumps in the road in the beginning stages of preparation for this event, new con-chair, Nick Frank and his staff are hoping that their dedicated, hard work is paid off by having the biggest turnout yet! If you happen to be in the area, you should do this devoted staff a favor and make an appearance and join in the fun.

Looking for a date? Well, it seems that one of the con’s favorite events, the Date Auction, is back and expanded! All you have to do is bid on your favorite and the winner gets to have dinner with one of the lovely ladies or gents.

Not into the mushy stuff? Attend for a full day of Gaming, with guests of honor Black Pigeon Press!

Some of us just go to events to socialize and watch anime. Watch films like Kenichi, The Mightiest Disciple, Heroic Age, Romeo x Juliet, or D. Gray-man. These are only a few of Anime St. Louis’ FUNimation!

And of course there will be the 2009 Cosplay Masquerade. With two sections this year, the Walk-on Competition and the Skit Competition, you have a couple different ways to strut your stuff and compete for the winning title! You may enter in one or both.

ConBust 2009

ConBust 2009 – For Guys and Gals!

Students at Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts are almost done preparing for this year’s ConBust! This three day sci-fi/fantasy/anime/gaming convention is going to be rockin’.

With activities like panels and workshops along with movies and anime showings, one will be sure to find entertainment throughout the weekend. Events like The One Dance to Rule them All which is an inter-genre dance will make you never want to leave. Or there is the Boffing War, where one may find himself (or herself) in a mess of duct tape and pvc pipes being swung around on a big field with tons of other attendees, which may send him (or her) home crying like a baby (just kidding – hopefully).

Some of the guests you may see are Lynn Flewelling who wrote the Night Runner series, Holly Black who also authors fantasy novels, The Smithee Awards, and Theo Black.

ConBust prides themselves in the fact that they focus on not only the male members of these specific genres but the females as well, unlike many other conventions which do not.

Mizuumi-CON Anime Convention

Texans, prepare yourselves for this weekend cuz Mizuumi-CON is comin’! There will be dealers, artists, panels, console and arcade gaming, a video room, tabletop gaming, dance, concert, and a cosplay show! What more could you want to do this weekend? Oh, we almost forgot about the signature event… COSPLAY DODGEBALL!

Guests will include Josh Grelle, The Slants, Amelie Belcher, A.V. Tactics, and more.

By the way, this is a charitable event so not only will you have fun but you can feel good about doing it!

North Carolina Renaissance Faire

2009 North Carolina Renaissance Faire – At Wake Forest

Let us travel back to the time of Good King Henry and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth I by attending the North Carolina Renaissance Faire! Take a leap back to the 16th century into this full scale and interactive theater which follows an impressive story line! This year the faire will be held at an exciting new Wake Forest location!

By strolling down the lanes at this festival you will find over a hundred artisians hawking their wares along with a whole lot of jugglers, musicians, and other entertainers. You will even see knights wielding their swords and competing for a position in Her Majesty’s Court during one of three jousts!

Four Winds Renaissance Faire

Four Winds Renaissance Festival 2009

“Step Back Into History” at the Four Winds Renaissance Faire of 2009. With attractions and weddings, vendors and performances, there is lots to see and do on Saturdays and Sundays just a little south of Tyler, Texas this year!

Many come to renaissance festivals to see the past brought to present through the exciting performances. Some of these events offered at the Four Winds are a Comedy Nun Show called Breaking the Habit or a magic show by Captain Thom Bedlam, the Pirate Magician. Also available for your viewing pleasure are the Dream Harem Bellydancers, or enjoy Ill-Gotten Booty – the Singing Pirate Show!

Anime Oasis EVO 2009

Anime Oasis EVO – coming soon

Anybody up for home gaming on 8 foot screens? That’s right… projector-based console gaming is available this year at Anime Oasis EVO in Boise the second weekend in March! There will be systems like PS3, Xbox360, Wii and some older systems as well.

Don’t forget about the Battle Cosplay Tournament! Or you can show off your own best cosplay during the Unrestricted Cosplay Tournament (please remember local, state, and federal laws apply)! Also, this year is the last year of the Swimsuit Contest so don’t miss it!

This convention even has a Ninja Event! Awesome! It’s almost worth making a trip to the land of potatoes for this one! Participants will be given special items – some will be fake, some real. Each ninja team will be assigned to a team and will have to try to obtain the real versions of all the items. There will also be a “dark item” given. Whoever holds this item at the end will win big if the other ninja is unable to assemble all 10 items. Tryouts will be Thursday.

Guests include Mark Hildreth, Lisa Furukawa, The Slants, and more.
