Dragon*Con 2009

Holding the title of “largest multi-media, popular culture convention focusing on science fiction and fantasy, gaming, comics, literature, art, music, and film in the US,” Dragon*Con brings a gazillion things to do.

Dragon*Con features a little of the expected and unexpected activities found at a multi-genre convention. Amongst the regular convention are activities such as gaming, screenings, Art Shows, Artist Alley, and much more. Some things you may not expect to do at just any convention include joining the Guinness World Records by dancing to Michael Jackson’s Thriller or earn a Dragon*Con Toy, produced by MINDstyle and designed by Doktor A for Dragon*Con attendees!

Illinois Renaissance Festival 2009

Get ready for the Illinois Renaissance Festival!

Step back into time and relive the traditions of long ago with a full scale, live re-enactment at the Illinois Renaissance Festival!

The town of Cornwall, England is a merry little town full of happiness and wit. Join the townsfolk as they await the return of their honored Lord Stanbrough along with a visit from His Majesty, King Henry VIII. There will be two days of feasting and celebration along with performers and peddlers, gypsies, musicians, and merrimakers!

Enjoy a weekend full of stories presented by Lord Marrok, sharing glipses into the civilization of merry olde England, hear the sound of giant drums, observe the prowess of the Akita and bear-hunting dogs of the Samurai. See a picture of the warriors of the East and watch an actual battle between Marrock himself as he fights with a warrior to determine which culture reigns!

Michigan Renaissance Festival – Coming Soon!

Travel to the little English village of Hollygrove this month (through October) with Michigan Renaissance Festival. Experience life in the latter half of the 16th Century, during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I while you wander around the streets with patrons, nobles, Vikings, pirates, wizards, rogues, wenches, and many other fantasy characters.

Other things one may see include swordfights, lane acts, festival stage acts, full contact joust shows, and fun activities and games for the entire family.

This festival will begin the weekend of August 22nd and 23rd and will last through October 3rd and 4th. A rundown of the weekend themes are below:

Ravenshire Renaissance Faire – A jolly good time.

In 17 days the Ravenshire Renaissance Faire will take place in Palisade, Colorado! August 21st through 23rd, renaissance and pirate enthusiasts will join together in the village of Ravenshire for a weekend of magic, mirth, and great food and wares!

This faire is unique as it features a blend of both the Renaissance Era of 1550 and the 18th Century Pirates. To fully enjoy the experience, go in your period attire (ideas available at their website). Also bring your Medieval and Pirate Swords – but remember to keep then sheathed and peace-tied at all times.

Kings, Queens, Pirates and Gypsies and children are welcome to enjoy the days full of merriment and chivalry along with looting and the wreaking of piratey havoc!

Connecticut’s Very Own Multi-Genre Convention!

ConnectiCon is putting on over 7,000 hours of programming during their annual 3-day event at the end of this month! From comics to anime, console games, board games, table top miniatures, sci-fi, fantasy, and more, there is fun to be had for all!

You can find three 24-hour screening rooms, 5 panel rooms, 3 workshop rooms, 2,500 seating main events hall, several 4-hours lots of roleplaying games, over 100 systems for free play thanks to GameStop! There is also a web comic charity auction!

Guests will include: Matt Boyd, Arthur Daniel, Tony Janning, Darren Gendron, Chris “Kilika” Malone, Amira Sa’id, Cristina Vee, and more.

Prices at the door are $60 for weekend, $30 for Friday, $40 for Saturday, and $25 for Sunday.

Washington: Get ready for 3 weekends of enchantment and fun!

Comic-Con San Diego is almost here!

Come to a place where comic book fans, anime, gamers, fantasy fanatics and the like can unite for an entire weekend! Comic-Con San Diego is the largest of its kind! You can literally be endlessly entertained for 4 whole days at the 40th anniversary of this mega-convention!

Programming will include panels, seminars, workshops with comic book professionals, previews of upcoming films, awards ceremonies, a masquerade, cosplay contest, and the Comic-Con International Independent Film Festival! There will also be creenings, game rooms, and much more!

“Where Anime and Gamers Unite!”

Are you looking for a date but having a really hard time finding that person? No, we aren’t starting a dating website, but we are going to tell you about a fun dating show at AniMix in Killeen, Texas next weekend! On Friday 3 men will compete to win the hearts of a lucky woman, and on Saturday 3 women compete for a lucky man’s heart. The convention planners are still accepting entries! Love isn’t your thing? Or perhaps you are already married, or might as well be. Well, there is much more to do at AniMix beyond the romantic kind of thing. Screenings, an AMV Contest, dances, karaoke, Hall Cosplay and Contest, Artists’ Alley and much more will be happening all weekend.

Or perhaps you just want to meet some famous people. How about Chuck Huber or Blake Shepard, Heidi Slade or J. Shannon Weaver? These are just a few of the special guests expected to show their faces next weekend at the convention.

“The LOJ Fantasy Masquerade Ball is a weekend of enchantment. Inspiration and fantasy meld under mask and cloak where nobles dance in the Faerie Court and legends take precious breath. Here is where our dreams are born. . .The Labyrinth

The lights will dim and the faries, goblins, and other mythical creatures will come out to play.  This Labyrinth of Jareth is a masquerade held every July at Henry Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, California.  This event will feature acts, wandering performers, and other imaginative surroundings.  The ball is based on Venetian Histories, Celtic Faeries and Goblin Lore. 

A wide array of people, including costume designers, fantasy artists, and special effect crews are often present at this event each year.  This event is open to anyone, so you can join in the fun!
